Beyond The Pale is the radio home to the Jewish Left. As WBAI’s Jewish politics and culture show, Beyond The Pale is devoted to bringing you New York City, US and world news and culture through the voices of multi-racial Jewish debate, analysis and humor. 

Originally airing on WBAI for 19 years between 1995 and 2014, Beyond The Pale returns with its new hosts, Shoshana Brown and Rafael Shimunov.

About the Cohost: Rafael Shimunov is an artist and activist in Queens, NYC. Shimunov is the founder of Art v War, a faction of political artists targeting corporate and state power and the co-founder of The Jewish Vote (TJV), home to New York City Jews organizing for progressive change via the ballot box. He has served on the board of Jews For Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ), where, for over 30 years, Jewish New Yorkers have been organizing with neighbors to transform the city from a wealthy playground for some into a thriving democracy for all. Shimunov has worked for The Working Families Party, Center For Constitutional Rights, major bail funds, and currently conspires with workers and communities confronting Amazon and Jeff Bezos at the Athena Coalition. He's organized with IfNotNow, Jewish Voice for Peace and collaborated on campaign victories for Senator Bernie Sanders, Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Councilmember Tiffany Caban, State Senator Kristen Gonzalez and over 100 progressive campaigns nationally.

Shimunov has been featured in the book Génération Ocasio-Cortez - Les Nouveaux Activistes Américains and an upcoming book on guerrilla art tactics. He has been seen on CNN and Al-Jazeera, with words and works across Rolling Stone, FADER, Time, ABC, BBC, Newsweek, The Independent, The Washington Post, Forbes, San Francisco Gate, Reuters, The Intercept, Haaretz, Jewish Telegraph Agency, Politico, Jewish Currents, Paste, Artnet and Hyperallergic.

Shoshana Brown, Kohenet Shoshana A Brown, LMSW is a Black- mixed race Jewish femme who works at Diaspora Alliance and has a long history of working as a Restorative Justice Practitioner, NYC High School Social Worker, adjunct professor at (CUNY Hunter) Silberman School of Social Work, syringe exchange program director and forensic social worker. They have grown as an organizer through abolitionist and prisoner justice communities and brings this ethic to the streets with Black Jewish Liberation Collective and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.
